Luminosity Masks – Luminosity Masks Tonal Area Zone Masks

How To Use The Tonal Area Luminosity Mask Tools

Tonal Area (Zone) Masks

Tonal Area (or Zone) Masks are Luminosity Masks that are used to work within specific tonal ranges or zones within out images. These masks select areas in the tonal ranges from the shadows to the highlights, but are restricted to specific tonal ranges. Therefore making a selection for example of an Expanded 3, which works in the shadow area of the image will make a selection of that tonal range and remove the selection of anything light and the darkest areas, allowing you to make adjustments within zones without effecting other tonal ranges.

The Tonal Area Masks are created in two ways, Restricted and Expanded. The Restricted masks make a very narrow tonal area selection, allowing you finer control, and the Expanded Masks make a broader selection allowing you greater adjustments in each tonal range.
