Luminosity Masks – Luminosity Masks Mask and Apply Group

Mask Group and Apply Group

Mask & Apply Group

One of the methods used to control the areas that you want effected in a luminosity mask is a technique called masking the mask. This involves creating a group, masking the group, then painting in or out the areas you are interested in working with.

This new tool allows you to select the areas you only want effected with any selection tool then using the mask group button to create your masked group and restrict your adjustment.

As we build up layers and groups our file sizes can become quite large, to reduce the file sizes created by masking groups, we can apply the group, which will collapse the layers. This combines the group mask with the underlying luminosity mask, retaining your masked adjustment, but all on one layer.
